The Prairie Times was a community newspaper located in the far southwest suburbs of Chicago that focused its coverage on the towns of Oswego and Yorkville. I was a general assignment reporter from its inception on Thanksgiving Day 2007 until its abrupt end seven months later in June 2008. I covered everything from local government to community news to preps sports. Highlights include reporting the 14th Congressional District Special Election to replace former Speaker of the House and longtime United States Representative Dennis Hastert between dairy mogul Jim Oberweis (R) and local scientist Bill Foster (D). I was also present for the implementation of House Bill 4184, more commonly known as the Illinois Smoke Free Act.
